Quick Taco Salad Bowl

Any way you want it!

Snowed in one cold winter day, we decided to add a little something to our lunch/brunch salad and this is what we came up with. In all fairness, we were not prepared and had to work with what we had at hand. It worked out amazingly well though, you will be seeing quite a few dishes featuring the awesome ‘Taco Bowl’. Its easy to make, adds an extra spin to that same old salad and, of course, tastes great. Try it out, its a truly simple meal.


Here’s what we found in our fridge and pantry and put together to make this experiment the success that it was:

  • 2 Whole Wheat Tortillas
  • Cooking Spray
  • For the Salad: Mixed Greens, Cherry Tomatoes, Green Onions/Scallions
  • Other toppings: Corn, Pickled Jalapenos, Steamed Vegetables, Beans, etc..
  • Meat toppings: Chopped Smoked Turkey or any other deli meat you have at hand
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Fat Free Dressing of your choice, we used Italian.


Although there are specific molds that create the perfect taco bowl, like this here on Amazon and reviewed here on Our Kitchen Essentials, you can also use an oven proof deep bowl to achieve a somewhat similar result. You only need to lightly grease your mold of choice with some cooking spray to prevent sticking and then fit the tortilla into it making sure to tuck it well because that is how it will harden. Bake on a 375 f (190 c) preheated oven for about 0-15 minutes until it starts to brown and crisp slightly to the touch. It will harden even further once it cools. Easy right?

Now a salad is a salad, no quantum physics there, add what you like as much or as little as you like it. You can also top it with anything you like or have available: Mixed Greens, Lettuce, Green Onions/Scallions, Tomato, Corn, Cucumber, Pepper, Cold Meat of your choice and Pickled Jalapenos are only some options we’ve used. Then you can top it with Shredded Cheese and Dressing of your choice. The possibilities are truly endless here if you think about it. If you toss it all, make sure to serve immediately before the Taco shell starts absorbing the dressing and gets all soggy. We recommend layering your ingredients and adding the dressing right before serving.
